Turbulent combustion statistics in a diffusion flame for space propulsion applications

نویسندگان

چکیده

The usage of direct numerical simulations for research turbulent combustion space propulsion applications is explored. With this goal in mind, the near injection a fuel-rich methane–oxygen flame at 20 bar simulated using massively parallelized solver. statistical properties relevant physical fields are examined to study interactions between turbulence and combustion. This analysis complemented by an investigation quantification error sources diffusion flame. A method estimate derived based on classical inference theory. In addition, critical resolution criteria discussed mesh sensitivity analysis.

Radiation modeling of a turbulent diffusion flame in diesel engine

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of radiation heat transfer on temperature distribution and heat flux to the walls of a diesel engine. A diffusion flame is modeled in a simple cylindrical geometry and boundary conditions are defined. A specific solver which can model the turbulent diffusion flame by considering radiation in participating media is used to solve the problem....

Flame Front Analysis in Turbulent Combustion

Fundamental research of turbulent combustion often requires the unambiguous localization of ame front positions and structures. Laser-induced uorescence (LIF) imaging provides di erent possibilities of detecting two-dimensional distributions of species typical for reactive areas. Simultaneous measurements of hydroxyl and formaldehyde laserinduced uorescence and total number densities by Rayleig...

Large eddy simulation modelling of combustion for propulsion applications.

Predictive modelling of turbulent combustion is important for the development of air-breathing engines, internal combustion engines, furnaces and for power generation. Significant advances in modelling non-reactive turbulent flows are now possible with the development of large eddy simulation (LES), in which the large energetic scales of the flow are resolved on the grid while modelling the eff...

Simulations of a turbulent non-premixed flame using combined dimension reduction and tabulation for combustion chemistry

The use of large chemical mechanisms of hydrocarbon fuels in turbulent flame simulations is computationally expensive due to the large number of chemical species and the wide range of chemical time scales involved. The reduced description of reactive flows in combination with chemistry tabulation can effectively reduce the simulation time when detailed chemical kinetics is employed in multi-dim...

A numerical study of turbulent flame speed models for H2/CH4/Air premixed combustion

This study has assessed the validity of the commercially available turbulent flame speed models within ANSYS Fluent as applied to hydrogen/methane/air combustion, with 5 different fuel compositions considered from 100% methane to 100% hydrogen. It was found that existing turbulent flame speed models were capable of producing accurate predictions up to 60% hydrogen with the Zimont model being th...
